I stopped off at Clonmacnoise (Cluain Mhic Nóis in Irish) on my way out to Achill Island. I haven’t been to this site in over 10 years.
Picking up a car in Dublin City Centre and relying on navigation from Google maps wasn’t one of my better life decisions. The rural roads are more narrow and winding than I’m accustomed to driving (throw that on top of driving on the right hand side of the car).
Some tips on driving in Ireland (although the traffic in Dublin isn’t all that bad)
This is an early Christian site founded by St. Ciarán on the River Shannon.
