Moon of the Longest Day

Located about an hour and a half south of Calgary is the site of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the site offers both indoor and outdoor exhibits, and once a month the opportunity to hike the Drive Lanes above the interpretive centre.

In university, one of my introduction to archaeology courses took us out to Head-Smashed-In and we were taken out to the drive lanes to see and better understand how the jump was used. More recently the Archaeological Society of Alberta organized a trip for us to go up on to the drive lanes. Our guide Stan was amazing, giving great detail on how the jump was organized and on the placenames of Southern Alberta. Below are some of the photos from the hike.
